About this Recipe
One thing I always try to keep in the freezer is a bag of frozen shrimp. They are quick to thaw and easy to cook. There are number of recieps that could be made with shrimp. Shrimp po boy being one of them. It’s not only easy to make, but doesn’t take a long time to make. So if it’s almost dinner time, you can whip this up in no time.
- 1 lb shrimp (peeled, deveined)
- French bread
- Mayo, mustard, ketchup
- Hot sauce
- Season to taste (I use my own mixture of spices… salt, pepper, onion powder, etc.)
Start by pre-heating your fryer to 350 degrees. If you brought fresh shrimp, peel and devein them.
Step by Step Instructions
Season shrimp to taste. You can make your own seasoning mixure or you can use a pre-made one like Slap Ya Momma seasoning.
Put a couple of cups of flour in a gallon size Ziploc bag. Add your seasoned shrimp to the bag, close it, and shake the bag until the shrimp are well coated with flour.
Carefully place the shrimp in the hot fryer and let shrimp fry for about 6-8 minutes until golden brown. Once cooked, remove from fryer and place on paper towel to absorb some of the grease.
If you like your bread toasted, go ahead and place it in the oven for a couple minutes. If you used French bread you can cut it in half once it’s warmed to make two po-boys. If you want to make a smaller size po boys you can cut the French bread into smaller sizes. I like a softer bread, so when I make them at home I’ll use that type of bread.
Now it’s time to dress your po boy, adding your shrimp, mayo, mustard, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, or anything that you like. I like mind fairly plain with just shrimp, mustard, tomatoes, and pickles.
This recipe is super easy and I’m sure if you love po boys you’ll enjoy making them at home.
