I love ramen. For me, it’s something I can eat year round – winter and summer. I am always on the search for good ramen. I lived in Japan for four years and ramen and udon became two of my favorites. I’ve started a list of my favorite ramen resturants, you can check it out here. But let’s jump into my review of Izumi Ramen Noodle Bar located in Lafayette, LA.

I’ve been here a few times in the last 5 months. Yeah, it’s that good!

What I’m eating…

Since I’ve been to Izumi Ramen a few times, I’m going to add all the dishes I’ve tried in this post. As I try new ramen on the menu, I’ll write a new post. I’m also a picky eater, so I tend to take out some of the ingredients.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

Gyoza – Japanese style dumplings filled with ground pork, cabbage and chives served with homemade dipping sauce.

Edamame – Whole soybeans tossed in salt.

Chi-kin Karaage – Tender, crispy fried chickend with homemade volcano sauce. This is my FAVORITE. I use to order this in Japan often.

Miso Happy – Izumi’s signature pork broth, miso, sliced tender pork belly, scallion, bean sprouts, nori, seasoned soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, wood ear mushroom, bean sprouts, wavy noodles. How I ordered it: add corn, no scallions, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and bean sprouts.

The Casian – A fusion between gumbo and ramen. It has 100% Louisiana crawfish and shrimp, sesoned soft boiled egg, corn, scallion, and wavy noodles. I ordered it without the scallion.

Miso Hot – Izumi’s signature pork broth, spicy miso, sliced tender pork belly, scallion, bean sprouts, nori, seasoned soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, wood ear mushroom, bean sprouts, wavy noodles. How I ordered it: add corn, no scallions, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and bean sprouts.

Izumi’s Tonkotsu – Izumi’s signature pork broth, sliced tender pork belly, scallions, nori, seasoned soft boiled egg, corn, bamboo shoots, wood ear mushroom, bean sprouts, wavy noodles.

Miso Chi-Kin – Izumi’s signature chicken broth, miso, sliced chicken, scallions, nori, seasoned egg, bamboo, wood ear mushroom, straight noodles. How I ordered it: add corn.

Was it good??

Yes! Since moving back to Louisiana in August, I’ve been here a ton of times. That in itself tells the story, that the food is good. Yes, I’ll definitely be back.
